Just drop on over anytime between 3:30 & 6pm... it should be a ton of fun.Kickoff More detailsven. 2 mai 2025 17:30KickoffFri, May 2, 2025 5:30 PMThe KICK-OFF is in-person, Friday, May 2, 2025 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, at the Madison Ave Pub, 14 Madison Ave, Toronto. A maximum of two people per team are allowed in the kick-off room due to space constraints, but additional team members can wait in other parts of the pub. The process takes more than an hour, from signing in to us going over the rules, to doing the genre draws, to providing you with the required elements. You must stay at the kick-off until 7 p.m., as we won’t be giving you the final instructions until just before then.
At the Kick-Off, you’ll draw one Horror sub-genre and one Sci-Fi sub-genre out of a hat. From there, you’ll have 48 hours to create a short film in either genre.
Madison Avenue Pub is located at 14 Madison Avenue, Toronto (a 3 minute walk from the Bloor & Spadina subway station). We'll be in room B2... look for the signs, you'll find us.
🛑 Space is limited to 60 teams – first come, first served! Register your team via https://48hourfilm.com/toronto/horror_scifi to secure your spot. As always, ACTRA members can participate, and team members can be added up until the filmmaking weekend.
After you've registered your team, and before the kick-off, you need to upload your signed Team Leader's Agreement to https://48hourfilm.com/login Please see below for the upload instructions. This Team Leader’s Agreement, alongside all of the other production documents you’ll need for the filmmaking weekend, can be found at https://www.48hourfilm.com/documents . You will upload the signed Team Leader's Agreement to your account on the 48 Hour Film Project website, www.48hourfilm.com/toronto Login to your account by clicking on "Login" in the top right corner. Your 48 Hour Film "Dashboard" will appear.
ACTRA members are allowed to participate in the Toronto 48 Hour Film Project. We'll provide the one page ACTRA agreement at the kickoff; nothing needs to be done in advance. You'll upload the agreement with your finished film and the ACTRA logo must also appear in your credits.
Vistek is offering a 30% discount on rentals, at both their Toronto and Mississauga locations, for the filmmaking weekend. If you need any extra gear for your filmmaking weekend, go to Vistek and tell them your Team Name and the Team Leader's name to get the deal... they have a list of all participants.

Remember: No creative work can be done prior to 7pm Friday, May 2nd, 2025. (Do not pre-write or shoot anything). All submitted films must be under 2 gigs in size. Your film should be: 1920x1080, H264; MP4 or .mov.

The final version of your film must be in one of the accepted formats listed below or on the 48HFP Dashboard (Login and download the “Tech Specs”)

Your film should begin with the following:
5 seconds of black
5 seconds of Title card. (team name, film title, genre, date, and city)
5 seconds of the 48 credit (“This film was made for the 48 Hour Film Project 2025. www.48hourfilm.com”) or the 48HFP Bumper (animated logo).

Drop-off FAQ
Is there guidance regarding recommended browsers?
We do not recommend using Safari to upload your film and paperwork, as it works sometimes but not all of the time. We strongly encourage using Chrome and Firefox.
Where do I find the title card templates?
Login into your Dash account and select your team. Next you see the selected project, with buttons to download title card templates.
What time does the film have to be submitted to be ON-TIME?
You must have your checksum on Sunday by 7.30pm at the latest . This checksum creates a fingerprint of your file as soon as you drag your file into the ‘’film drop off’’ box. This may take a couple minutes, so ensure a timely start. Best Advice: Aim for a 7pm drop off, which gives you half an hour to start your download.
The upload appears to be stuck, but it’s after 7.30pm!
Don’t worry. This happens occasionally. But as long as you have an on-time checksum and have not changed anything about the original file, you can just refresh your browser and try again. Your drop off time will appear again as soon as the fingerprinting phase (yellow beam) is done.
Nothing seems to happen, no yellow beam, nothing!
Sometimes a browser can work against you. Sometimes Safari (among others) has issues.
Best Advice: Use Chrome or Firefox. Still have issues? Try switching computers.
Can I finish the upload at a different location?
Yes, as long as you have an on-time checksum, you can interrupt the upload and finish it somewhere else. But, ensure we have your film as soon as possible. Remember: You must upload the exact same file.
I’m getting an error about my file being corrupted, what now?
This has nothing to do with your file, but how your file is received. Probably something went wrong with uploading, causing the file not to upload correctly. You can only fix this by refreshing and trying again.
The website mentions a ‘’countdown’’, where do I find it?
Nowhere. This animation contains the old logo, which we don’t use anymore. But it’s not prohibited to use, hence it is still in the rules.
What can I do to prepare for my film upload?
Make sure you are logged into the system at 7pm and have navigated to the Film Upload page. If you already know the final title of your film, fill it in so the only thing you have to do is drop the file into the dropzone after checking that your file plays back after rendering and is correct.
I’m not able to complete my film on-time… what do I do?
Call or text the City Producers and tell them that your film is going to be late and when to expect it.
Will you screen late films?
Yes, you worked too hard for us not to screen you film. It’s a marathon… just finish the race and we’ll cheer when you cross the finish line.
Can I make changes to my film after submission?
Yes, it’s your film and you can make your Director’s Cut. However, we’re screening the versions uploaded… warts and all, because we’re celebrating the run and what you’re able to accomplish in only 48 Hours.
